Flashback

Background: OK, so in the wee hours of a cold winters morning in January of 2004, I, and my stoner roommate were awakened from our hibernations by a loud rapping at the door. Even though it was a weekday, what moron knocks on a door prior to nine AM?

That would be the hall staff.

They were spreading the good word that the building was without power. Go figure. As the day progressed we found novel things with which to fill our time, but as night fell.....we still had no power.

It being the middle of winter, the genius' at housing took it into their heads that it was a good idea to move us to temporary rooms all over campus. So in the dark, using only a lighter to find things, I packed a bag and walked across the parking lot to Clay. I wasn't happy. I was going to miss TV that night.

We ended up going over to someone elses' apartment to watch TV, but it still sucked when the next morning we woke up early only to find that A.) our building still didn't have power and B.) classes had been postponed because of snow.

All day we hung out in the darkened lobby waiting for the power to come back.

But at the end of the second day, there was still no power and we were forced back into the emptiness and strangeness of temporary housing.

It took them two days to get our power back on line. We of Case Hall 2003-2004 often talk about how we survived that blackout and about how much it really did suck.

Well, this morning at 7:10, I heard that same familiar knocking....only it was slightly different as I have a metal battleship door now instead of the nice homey wooden one. Anyway, it was an RA telling me that the building was WITHOUT POWER. Dammit. I've already SURVIVED one power out....I really don't need to do this again.

Especially since I have homework that requires me to watch TV....I have to analyze some sign tapes and re-tell the story by tomorrow. This is sucky.

Anyway, so basically I'm going through flashbacks, except this time it's summer-y and we're not freezing our balls off in the dark.

Oh, and since when can't people pee in the dark? I swear, kids these days just don't know how hard things used to be.
